Anadha Bhavan

Anandha Bhavan Serangoon

Hi everyone!! Its Hemaa back again with another interesting update on everything and all FOOD!!

In this latest blogpost of mine, I have decided to introduce you guys to some authentic good old Indian food.
But, this time it is all about going vegetarian.

I am not sure if all my non-Indian friends out there do know about this place or have tried out the food here but I believe this place right here dishes out one of the best vegetarian fares that I have ever personally tried.

Anadha Bhavan was established in 1924 and apparently is one of the oldest vegetarian restaurant to be in Singapore.
Now, Anadha Bhavan has several branches almost in every part of Singapore besides Serangoon itself.

However, I always choose to go to the branches in Serangoon itself as I usually tag along with my parents there and sometimes go there for lunch.

When it comes to food, there are great varieties of vegetarian food offered here. From the normal “thosai” or “idli” (rice pancakes) to vegetarian burgers, you can get a taste of everything vegetarian.
However, for me, it is all about the poori for me. Poori is a light dough pastry rolled into a round thin disk and then fried in oil. It comes out of the oil super crisp and almost inflated like a balloon. It is similar to that of chappati( Indian Flat Bread), but is fried instead. The poori is accompanied by two dips. One of the dips is a mashed masala potato and a spicy chickpea masala. Both are extremely irresistible when eaten with the poori. And when drank with a hot coffee or tea ordered, the eating experience just alleviates to a whole other level.

Poori

Besides poori, you can get other dishes like chappati , vegetarian roti prate with a spicy coconut curry, plain white rice with vegetable side dishes and also delectable indian sweets such as kesari and etc.
So next time you feel like trying out these mouth watering dishes, here is a map that shows you how to get there!

So all food lovers, stay tuned for more food recommendations!!
Meanwhile, do go and try out the dishes at Anadha Bhavan!

Thank you
